Thanks to the brand new ππ²π»ππΆππΌπΊπ²ππΏπΌ "ππΌπΉπΌπ΄πΆπ° ππΌπΏπΆππΌπ» installed in February 2023, we are able to perform densitometry of the lumbar spine, of the femur, total-body densitometry to assess body composition and the extent of visceral fat and automated vertebral morphometry with DEXA technique
Body composition measurement
The DEXA Total Body MOC is the most widely used and reliable diagnostic technique for assessing body composition.
This investigation makes it possible to quantify muscle mass and fat mass, information that cannot be obtained by simply calculating the body mass index (BMI) and is therefore useful in the context of nutritional programmes as it allows an excellent initial assessment of body composition and the possibility of monitoring the effectiveness of customised nutritional interventions over time.
The DEXA Total body MOC also makes it possible to analyse the distribution of body fat and its main areas of excess accumulation, such as the abdominal area, which characterises the android morphotype typical of men, or the gluteal-femoral area, which characterises the gynoid morphotype typical of women, as well as to estimate the extent of visceral fat: this parameter is correlated with cardiovascular risk, diabetes and hypertension.
Lastly, the evaluation of muscle mass is useful in sportsmen to verify the state of the musculature also in the context of rehabilitation programmes following traumas, injuries, surgery and in the elderly to assess the degree of sarcopenia, i.e. the degree of decline in muscle mass and consequently in muscle strength due to ageing or hypomobility.
